Need help installing washer

My laundry room is on the second floor and I'm installing a new washer. There is a outflow pipe sticking up from the floor, in addition to an outflow pipe behind and above the unit space. When I install the washer, which is a top loading LG unit, will I need the bottom outflow pipe? Or should I cut it, cap it, and cover it with a tray that I set the washer atop?

Hi Jluery,

The outflow pipe as you describe it in the wall is for the washer drain, the pipe in the floor is for the washer tray, connect the tray to the bottom pipe. This gives you a drain for the tray so if the washer overflows or leaks the water trapped by the tray can drain away instead of overflowing on to the floor.
